A simplified version of this game, with a different name and a different title card, was released for the PlayStation in Japan, retitled Bass Fishing: The original title card is translated into Japanese, with the Japanese names for the various animals added in the margin. The soundtrack used in the game was a recording of the 1959 film, The Perfect Set, of the same name, performed by the musicians Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond. Gameplay Players select one of the fish from a list. After selecting a fish, the player then lines up a stick to fish. If the player lines the stick up too far, the fish will not eat, causing the fish to swim off and lose points. After lining up the fish, the player pulls down the string, which causes the fish to dart toward the target line. If the fish hits the line, the player is rewarded with a number of points equal to the length of the hook. Once the player has hooked a fish, the game automatically starts. To finish the game, the player must not lose the fish or the fish will die. After completing a level, the player receives a score for the level and any bonus points for catching the largest fish, the furthest fish, and the most fish. The team found an advertisement for an arcade fishing game that came up on their computer screen, which had a much higher interest to its target audience. They decided to develop the game as a release for the Sega Genesis instead. Bass Fishing: The original title card is translated into Japanese, with the Japanese names for the various animals added in the margin. The Japanese version of Bass Fishing, in addition to the different title card, has different names for the fish and the time of day. The game has 30 levels, each lasting five minutes. Reception In 1993, Time named Bass Fishing one of the five best sports games for the Sega Genesis. Fishing was also listed as one of the three best fishing games on the Genesis by GamePro, although the magazine commented, "Although it's a good game and may be fun for beginners, it's hard
